daisy (ox-eye daisy / leucanthemum vulgare / chrysanthemum leucanthemum)
how to grow:
They were already growing in our garden but they can be grown from seeds. They are perennials that are hardy in US zones 3-9 and bloom every year from June to August.
medicinal properties:
Daisies have similar medicinal properties as chamomile and can be used almost interchangeably. It's the flower heads that are used medicinally.
Daisies are said to help with healing of the common cold, fever, a sore mouth and throat, asthma and whooping cough and even other lung issues like tuberculosis and pneumonia.
It is said to also be useful for liver and gallbladder complaints and even for jaundice.
Daisies can be used as a tonic to increase the body's strength.
To prepare a tea take 1 teaspoon of the crushed flowerhead for 1 cup of boiling water and let it steep for 10 minutes.
Topically daisies can help to heal bruises, wounds and ulcers. You can apply them directly to the skin.
cautions and possible side effects:
- Some people might be allergic to this plant.
- I couldn't find enough information so it's best to avoid during pregnancy and while breast feeding.
